Gateway Learning

The Gateway Learning Community is a collaborative partnership between Beresfield Public School, Blackhill Public School, Woodberry Public School, Woodberry Learning Centre, Millers Forest Public School, Tarro Public School, Thornton Public School, and Francis Greenway High School (FGHS).

Learning Community

This learning community aims to foster connections and collaboration among these schools to enhance educational opportunities, share resources and best practices, and support student learning and wellbeing across these schools. Through such partnerships, the schools work together to create seamless transitions for students as they move from primary to secondary education, promote professional development for staff, and engage families and the wider community in supporting student success.

APEX Program

As proud members of the Gateway Learning Community we participate in the Gateway APEX Program (Advancing Potential and Exploring Excellence). The purpose of the program is to provide local opportunities for our students across all HPGE domains to develop their talent which has been identified through school processes. Gateway APEX provides a range of programs across our local schools which cover each domain, as follows:

In 2025 examples of our APEX events include a Gateway Games interschool sporting program to bring schools together to engage in a variety of sports, including netball, soccer, touch football, softball, and cricket, a Creative Horizons ceramics initiative, and a range of school based initiatives for student talent development.

Year 5 - 7 Transition

As part of the Gateway Learning Community, students in years 5-7 will work with a Head Teacher Middle Years from Francis Greenway High School.

Throughout the year, students will engage in transition activities that will support their journey into high school. These include school regular visits from the Head Teacher Middle Years, combined school gala days, STEM workshops, cultural transition days and HPGE opportunities for identified students.

Parent information sessions, school tours and workshops also occur throughout the year to ensure all families feel safe and have a sense of belonging with the high school prior to their child starting.
